About Wessex Translations

What is GIST?

A gist is a computer-generated translation. A gist is intended to quickly deliver the meaning of electronic texts (such as .txt or .html) written in a language a reader does not understand by converting the text into the reader's preferred language. This allows the reader to immediately understand and act upon the information contained in the original document.

Machine translation produces reasonable results in many cases. But you should not rely on it. If you want to send a translated text to another person or use it in correspondence, always explain that you are using an automatic translator and append or reference the original text. This acknowledgement will put the translation into the right context and will help you avoid embarrassing misunderstandings.

The service we offer is similar to Alta Vista’s Babelfish but without the 5K file size restriction!

Once you’ve completed our questionnaire and validated the disclaimer. We’ll then try to send you the “gisted” document back within 24 hours of your submission.
